Unusual Tyre Wear

I have noticed that the outside edges of both front tyres are very worn.

Vehicle is 2005 CLK200 with just under 48,000 miles.




And rear for comparison purposes



Any help/ advice appreciated.

Those fronts look really bad.
You should go for an alignment check, and probably some new front tires.

Wheel Alignment would be the first step.
I would also not discount worn suspension components even if they are not picked up at MOT time.

How many miles has it taken for that to occur?

When they do the alignment check ask them to check the castor and camber angles - not just the toe in.

Yes, full alignment check probably best.
Having said that, every Mercedes I've ever owned seems to have that type of tyre wear. However, the pics the op has provided do seem to show extreme shoulder wear.

Looks like excessive toe in to me. There appears to be evidence of feathering on the sipes.
Generally worn suspension causes wear on inner edges of tyres.

As above, full hunter tracking will show any issues.

Update:
Indie wanted new tyres fitted before doing steering geometry check which I have done.
Steering geo was checked by indie when in for 48k service yesterday.
Said it was pretty good with only the tiniest adjustment necessary.
All bushes & joints checked and reported to be sound.
Just to monitor wear going forward now.
Btw, it drove absolutely fine, just the wear on the outside edge.
