Wow! I came here looking to see if the rust issues have been sorted on newer models. my W210 is absolutely riddled with tin worm..The rear subframe is rusty but nowhere near cracked or rotten through at any of the mounting points for the arms etc. I replaced the rear subframe bushes, the body mounts are a bit ropey..I can't believe they haven't got their act together. I have moved from years of ownership of e39 BMW's, had loads of them, they rot out at the sills from the inside out and blemish on body panels but nowhere else really.

I am going to lower the subframe again and sandblast it and treat with buzzweld products which are the best in the business. I have already done my w123 with these. They are widely used on landrover defenders which rot like crazy. I had my mind set on a w211 after the w210, do they suffer as well?

Best result there is is to rust protect before the rust starts, no good waxoiling a rusty part, it'll carry on rusting underneath the preventative.
This car was waxoiled while the new parts were fitted and the waxoil carried on over the rusty parts too, look at it now after 20 years. It probably started rusting soon after it was waxoiled

Maybe rust treatment has improved over the years, but there is no substitute than new steel. ;)

What car is this!?!? that looks pretty terminal
