After buying my first Merc just over 3 years ago (C250TDi on a P plate)and putting on nearly 120K on the clock it's time to change it. I have bought (but not picked up yet) a C220 cdi Avantgarde Xplate 2001.

My problem is that I am waiting for a couple of parts to be 'fixed'.
The first is a replacement seat module as I am told it drains the battery (works fine when plugged in but drains power if left plugged in).

The other problem is that the mirrors don't move (they do fold in though).

Both items are on order (new switch for mirrors and module for seat) but seem to be taking quite a while to arrive.

I really want the items fixed before I pick up the car but HATE waiting, anyone know if I can get these items 'off the shelf'.

On another note I have browsed these forums for quite a while and I am pleased to now be a member.

All the best to all of you.

A dealer can order them next day delivery. You have to pay a little extra for
them though.

Whois selling it to you? They may be trying to source the parts second hand.

Hi BlackC55,

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I am buying from a local car dealer (not Merc dealer).

I would guess they are trying to get reconditioned parts, however they said the parts are coming from Mercedes.

Two days maximum for the parts then. How long have you been waiting?

Bought the Merc last Saturday and they told me of the faults, they explained the parts were on order!!

My trouble is that once I have bought anything I want it straightaway - it's probably me being impatient!!

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Tell them if you do not receive the car with the new parts in the next few days, that you will cancel your order.

Another option is to contact the dealer, and find the prices for the parts. Then negotiate a discount with the seller of the car, and fit the offending items yourself.

I can understand that. I am very similar. Like kids really.

My GF always asks "When are you going to grow up?"

I always reply "never"

Boys and there toys!!

Hi Parrot,

I phoned them yesterday and asked if it would be ready for the weekend, they said 'we hope so' so I shall leave it for a little while. If it's not ready by the early part of next week I shall buy the items as you mentioned.

Any ideas on what's best :- Merc dealer or Reconditioned parts ?

When the GF and I have that "discussion" I always go down the pub to play with my friends.

They understand.....

Hi,
Sorry but i would not except delivery until they have fixed the problems so the car is 100% on delivery as the battery going flat problem would worry me knowing how complex and notoriously difficult to diagnose the electrics are on the newer models and whats another week or two.
Just my 2 penuth worth.

Andy,

Thanks for the post.

I haven't phoned them today, I shall wait to see what happens tomorrow.

I won't take delivery until it's either all fixed or I get a deal taking the faults into consideration.

I shall keep you posted.

Ok, just a quick update I still don't have my car!!

I couldn't get the air con working (that should have been fixed but wasn't) so they have lent me an 04 plate 2 litre Jag for the weekend.

My question is this :- On Tuesday they are having the aircon re-gassed, but the car doesnt have an A/C switch - it has the EC rest, auto switch and dual temp dials but how exactly do I get the aircon to work - do I just turn the dials to 18 (in the blue) or should I be pressing something else ?

Sorry for what should be a simple question but it doesn't appear to be straight forward.

Just to recap C220 CDI AvantGaurde

By default the AC is on in most Mercedes, the "EC" switch will turn the AC off, so when the EC light is on you know the AC is off. For max cooling set the dials into the blue.

Hi Mark, a common fault on the Air con is the sensors in the system, this being the case, then the system would have to be re gassed in the process.

If this was done, then the newer type do not give problems and you should be able to drive real cool for many years to come.

Hi Television,

Thanks for the reply, I think they are just going to re-gass it, this means that the system may still not work and then need the sensors replacing and re-gassing again!!

Oh dear...

Oh dear...

These people know what they are doing, being low on gas is nothing to do with the sensors, its when its full of gas and does not work.

The sensor problem only effected certain makes of sensors, and the Equipment suppliers keep the Air Con boys up to date.

Wish that I had not said anything now, go and enjoy your fine car
