Hi
I have a Mercedes S500 2001 it was factory fitted with a Nokia 6210 connected through the Liguatronic system. I would now like to upgrade my phone to a 6310i, however although the handset fits the cradle the CCU does not recognise the phone (I knew it was a long shot but you never know
I have spoken to Mercedes who said yes it can be changed, however I do not want to spend in the region of £600.00 for a new CCU which does not include the phone or cradle, which I already have. Does anyone know if the existing CCU can be reprogrammed, or can I purchase the CCU and install it myself.

Regards JMG :)

Just a thought but the 6310i is now old hat, Nokia now at last have a whole range that will fit a cradle and I understand will stick with the current shape for a while. Might be worth missing out the 6310i and upgrading to the current range. Assuming you can of course.

Thanks for the reply

Hi Jimbo

That was my first thought and I have already looked into this option, it can be done, although not through Mecedes, I found a specialist who can do it but the cost is prohibitive.

Not surprised - it's the annoying thing about cars designed to operate with other people's technology - by the time the car comes out the technology is already 3 years out of date and they never seem to 'future proof' their designs.

I had a similar problem with my S320 2002 factory fitted with the 6210 configuration. But the 6210 is an outdated phone that looks and weights like a brick. MB said they could change it to something else. But I decided not to bother. New phones are coming out everyday and you'll never catch it. I have opted for bluetooth which is at least equally as good.

6310 is still a good phone but no longer available. the kit for it is standard equiptment on my 2003 car. I recently purchased a 2002 CL 600 which has the 6210 set up that you have. The phone works in the original cradle but I had to buy a new CPU. It's just a black box that fits under the drivers seat and it was just a matter of plugging out the old one and plugging in the new one. I paid the dealer ?387 inc vat Fitted. thats about £250 and prices in UK are generally less than in Ireland. the part no was A2038205185.

JMG I have exactly the same problem with a 2001 s320l. Did you ever get it resolved?

I know I need a part number called A 203 820 51 85 that is the ccu so you can just change that but I also believe that the existing cradle will work with the new CCU. I am sourcing at the moment and a guy of ebay says he may have one and get back to me. Failing that you can buy the complete kit for ?525 from holland and it takes 10 minutes to fit I am told by the seller who does have a good reputation. MB sell just the CCU it for about £238.

I have seen in another forum the the Linguatronic will not effect this because it is another ECU.

Anybody know were the CCU for the phone actually is on an S class? It is either under the passenger seat or under the rear near side side.

S500 phone

i've just purchased a 2001 S500 in the UK. I have a 6310i nokia that as you mentioned fits the cradle and even charges but when you try to initialize it, you get the message 'initializing' which never goes any further.

I'm now on ebay looking to buy a 6150 that I know from the manual will work. I have lingutronic also but can't get it to work with any of my old phones. Very annoying because the compatible phones for the car are all now so old...

You've probably solved the problem now given your post is so old but my advise received from the previous owner was just to have two phones. One for the car and one for personal mobile use.

Cheers
A
