Upgrading to APS 30 on CLK

Hi there,

I have a W208 2002 CLK320 and want to upgrade the Audio10 in it to an APS 30 so that I can have Sat Nav. Is this straight forward? There seem to be a few different APS 30 models - I know I need a DIN one but that still leaves 3 versions (BE 4705, 4715, 4716) - what are the differences and can I use any of them? I think the first does not have CAN-BUS - do I need that? I want it to work without major hassle (hopefully pull out the old unit and plug in the new one) and I want the steering/dash controls to work too. I already have a MB 6 CD changer in the boot and want to obviously keep that going too.

Hi,
With the BE4705, the display in the centre of the dash will not work.
With the other 2 it should be straight forward. The 4716 is the latest version in this format, soo should have the latest hardware.
the software for the radio is updated via the navigation disc, soo the latest version disc you have the better. Current version is 7.0 that came out in late 2003. I have a brand new one still sealed available at a fraction of the dealer price if interested.
Installation is easy.
The 3 connectors at the back of the radio fit straight on to the APS30
The only extra needed is a GPS aerial. You can install these under the dash, soo they're not visible.
To get the directions in the centre of the dash, it may be necessary to visit the dealer for programing the can-bus.
The steering wheel controls work the same as with the Audio10, but you can not enter a destination from there. This must be done on the radio.
Once the installation is done, it is necessary to enter the right tyre dimension for the navigation to be accurate.
The CD changer is a straight plug and play via the Fibre Optic link.

Thanks for your help. Have just bought a 4715 on ebay. Don't know if it comes with the navi CDs, but anyway would be interested in knowing how much they are. BTW, how do you program the thing and how do you set tyre sizes, etc? Do you have a manual that you could email? Thanks.
