You need to look at the ET or Offset number on the wheels.
I am not sure what the offset is on stock 190E wheels, but sotck wheels will probably be 7J - so with 8J wheels the offset needs to be lower than the offset on your stock wheels.
Check the ET number on your current stock wheels and do the same for the 8J - 8J's should be at least 5mm less than your stock offset.
190 wheels were 6.5" wide
8" wide wheels will have rubbing problems depending on offsets
225/55 tyres will also probably rub
Is your suspension stock or lowered?
I used to have 8x17's on my 190 with 215/45 tyres and stock suspension and they rubbed like crazy!
the suspension is standard, it sits quite high when its stopped, but on the move i lowers down alot.
ive basically got a choice between those 16"x8J 8 hole alloys or a set of 18"x7J AMG alloys, just dunno which set to go for. do u reckon the 18's will rub without lowering the car?
I'd go for the 16 x 8J - 18's are too big for a 190E and you may end up having more wheel than car if you know what I mean.
18's will probably rub, but that is easily fixed by rolling the fender arches which is a quick and easy task.
What you must confirm is the ET or offset number otherwise you'll end up with big problems. Offset is the most important measurment to consider with wheels BUT the offset must be considered along with the width of the wheel.
So if your stock 6.5J wheel is ET 30, then the 8J wheels need to be ET20 or less.
thanks for the advice talbir, but still dont know which wheels to get. there's so many alloys about, even the standard one's from the e-class, clk's and other models.ive seen alot of pics of 190's with loads of differn alloys, n im confused as **** to be honest.
this is my first merc, i was a vw nutta, had 5 mk2 golf's n a nissan primera gt, all of which were modified, but dont want to kit the 190 apart from alloys, clear indicators, exhaust n few other bits n bobs.i think kitting these merc's up, just make's them look cheap.
Yeah, there's quite a selection of wheels out there.
I would reccomend you get original AMG alloys or even the OX AMG's that were fitted to the 190Cosworth. The car should look original, i.e. fit alloys that MB themselves would have fitted to the car. That's my personal opinion anyway.
I agree, lots of little add-ons make a Merc look like a tart. Especially clear lenses at the rear. In my opinion, if you fit the right wheels to the car, it won't need any other enhancements.
The 'right' wheels will come out right to the arch, i.e. they will be level with the side of the car. Also, the gap between tyre and arch should be quite small, approx 1-1.5inches. You could go lower, but again, it can look a bit too much.
Ebay is a good place for wheels sometimes. Otherwise, try Chris at Mercman 02380 784444, he may have some wheels. Don't know for sure though.
