Thick!

Can't help but how did it happen? I've often wondered if the car running could lock itslef if I hopped out and the door closed but always felt that would be impossible (please God).

Suggest a call to MB.

I once locked my keys in the deadlocked boot of my E230. Locksmith / AA man between them got rear seat out, pressed some button / switch which disconnected the battery and some magic occurred and then the boot sprang open.

The normal way for older vehicles that won't damage anything is to bend a wire coat hanger in half and then shape it so that you can get under the button in a sort of U shape but with one side longer than the other. It may also help to create a little pltform on the other side to increase your chances of getting under the button. Obviously, the U needs to be deep enough to get under the window. To increase access it might be wise remove the trim along the base of one of the door windows. Use a wooden spatchular so that it, the window, or the paintwork doesn't get damaged.

Best of Luck

phone your local garage up - most of them will have the required tools :)

"jiggle" keys to pick the lock, an inflatable wedge to gently lever the door open just enough to hook the handle or a flat blade which slides down next to the glass (often called a skinny Minnie or slim Jim) and unlocks the car.

It's frighteningly easy once you know how :(

always work on the passenger door as it is less crucial should you damage the lock

Woops

Thanks for the tips. I was concerned that a coathanger would damage the actuator mechanism. However I will give it a crack tonight!!! Then I will call the AA.
How I did this......turn off car, hop out leaving keys partially in ignition. Walk away. Alarm activates the system. SHUTDOWN!! No spare fob or door keys (Mental note: must get some cut). Aaaaargh.

At least my wife finds amusement in this.......!

It was the AA who showed me how to do it. Unfortunately in the end it didn't work and I had to break the quarter light window. amazing how a club hammer can repeatedly bounce off a window.

If you bend it in half and create a platform you shouldn't be able to offer any sharp edges to anything inside the door.
