Hi Everyone. I have a sudden problem with my C240 elegance estate (2001)
Whilst I was out today A few problems all happened at once. First of all the red message saying Battery/Alternator visit workshop. Then, straight away came Amber warnings for the following: SRS, ESP, and Low coolant level. Also, I had no indicators, no lights, no brake lights, and the radio cut out. Also became very very sluggish on acceleration. Drove straight home, as I was only about 1 mile away. As I pulled onto my driveway, radio started up again, and all warnings disappeared. within a second, all the warnings came back. Now, on the driveway, as I put the key in, all seems fine, until the engine is actually started, then it all kicks off again.

Sorry for the long post, but I am in despair, and I wanted to give as many details as possible.

Please can some-one help???

This could just be the regultor pack on the rear of the alternator, whats happened is the car has an intermittent charge.

You could go to a Bosch service center, as they are much cheaper than MB, also they made the thing in the first place

Thank you for the prompt reply guys. I am assuming you are talking about the main problem i.e. the red one saying battery/alternator? Would the other faults be things which are just thrown up as a side effect, or could it be more involved?

Are you going to have a go yourself, if you are then its best to take the old one out first.

Part numbers can change

I have no clue how to do even a "simple"? job like that. However my friend is mechanic, although not a MB one. He has said if I get it diagnosed and the part, he will fit it for me. I am searching for a mobile car electrical specialist to do the diagnosing for me, but I am trying to save money, and if the concensus here is that it is that part, then if it is not too expensive I may as well get the part and get him to fit it. The other problem is , assuming the part fixes the main problem on the display, will all of the other probs go away, or does the system need "re-setting"?

Again, sorry for my level of ignorance.

The part is available from Bosch if it is a Bosch alternator, and the details I have given you, so you know where to get.

You will have to remove the faulty one, then buy one the same.

You will not have any other, all of the warning lights are part of this alternator problem and will not be there once the car is charging again
