hi guys i really need a FAST reply on this, as someone is selling four wheels+covers for Mercedes C series and i'd like to buy them (good price)

i'd have to get them this evening but my big concern is whether they are the right ones for my car

my car is a mercedes C220 (1995 model) and the winter wheels have the following stamped on them

ME 515013/ET37
32/96
2104000202
6 1/2 Jx15H2

now that's all good and well but those numbers don't match up with the ones this guy is selling, particularly his are 16inch wheels (see here for photos of what he's selling)

http://imageevent.com/zacks/mercedesflger16tums?z=2&c=3&n=1&m=16&w=4&x=0&p=5

so my question is this, will the 16inchers fit on my c220 considering it most likely has 15inchers on it at present ? plus will my old tires move to the new wheels

dumb questions i know but i'd really appreciate an expert replying

cheers

have you got the numbers of the wheel in question ?

as long as the ET value is with in the range for a c-class the the fact they are 16" shouldnt be a problem (goes without saying they have to be pcd 5 x112)

I think the et range for a c class is 35 to 42

I am running 7.5 x 17 et 35's with no problem - a few people on here are running 18"'s also

PCD = pitch circle diameter (of the wheelstud holes). Should be the same, and the wheels should fit your car, but with 16" diameter tyres obviously, and a lower profile e.g. ('55' instead of '65') to keep your 'rolling circumference' within spec, for speedo reading to be accurate etc.
There are guides and charts on file on this subject somewhere if you do a search.

The pitfalls are:

More expensive
Worse ride
Too many wheels - you have 4 already, right???
Looks naff*

The advantages are:

You can fit bigger brakes
Greater ultimate grip level

* These days I always check the brake caliper - wheel clearance on the front wheel, if this is huge, then I instantly know the 'modifier' hasn't fitted bigger brakes, but is only after the 'bling' look - which makes me suspect he is a t***er.

ok thanks for the input, i'm still confused though, should i or shouldnt i

dam i hate making decisions like this

all i can say is the current set of winter wheels i have look old, rusty and in bad condition (but useable and come with new'ish tyres)

if i was to replace them with these 4 16inchers then i'd have to invest in 4 new different profile tyres according to you guys, and i may have issues with

* braking
* road handling

am i correct in saying that ?

thanks a lot

No. Your braking would be unaffected and the road handling* would probably improve. Your ride would be worse, though.

*This would be affected very much by other factors, including the choice of tyre.

Why do you want another set of steel wheels anyway,,they will fit your car,but i don't see the point in this change...

quite simple really

the original set are ten years old and are used as winter wheels (in sweden we always have two sets of wheels, one for summer (usually alloys) one for winter, as the tires are different for both summer and winter.)

the original winter wheels are looking there age and i'm in the process of respraying them, however even after they'll be re-blacked they still look 'bumpy' due to the rust deposits (i don't have a sandblaster and a wirebrush just doesnt cut it)

i also will need to get wheel covers for these winter wheels 'anyway' and the price of them (new) would be more than the cost of the four 2 year old 16inch wheels offered for sale plus hub caps (merc caps).

that's the reason for my questions, i'd like my car to look good both in winter and summer :)

cheers

I would stick with 15" wheels. Whats the point of changing from 15" to 16" simply based on the availability of wheels for sale? Seek out some 15" wheels......
