My music is MP3 files on a USB memory stick. It works just fine with everything I have so far plugged it into. However MBUX does not seem able to find it.

Anyone know if MBUX can play music from such devices, does it need any special file arrangement/ protocols etc ?

Possible that the USB stick needs to be formatted Fat32 for the MB system to read it.

I transferred some music from the computer on to a micro-sim with use it with an adapter in the slot on the dash near the radio controls, and it works fine. But in the centre console between the two front seats, there is a USB connector and it seems to be for connecting a USB stick to the Sat-Nav., or. something else associated with the Comand set up...Can anyone tell me what this this is for? ( there is a second connection in the same console, but it seems to be for a phone, and it s not a USB connector ) )

I formatted mine to EX-FAT and my car won't read it.
I'll try FAT32 :D

I use that USB slot to connect my phone for Apple Car Play for music and for the Waze sat nav on the phone

Have found a solution -

First of all what I was using is a USB / SD converter. It is a USB device that you can plug a micro SD card into so as the card can be read through a USB port. I have a couple of these and have never had any bother using them, can plug them into my van, my last car, the hifi in the house and even the TV - and have no problem playing the music files. But it will not work on Mercedes MBUX

Went into the dealership and one of the technicians took a look and told be it was because of the SD Card and that it would only work with a USB Memory Stick. Had no explanation other than SD Cards just don't work in Mercedes

So on returning home I borrowed a memory stick from a neighbour, plugged it in, and hey presto it all works perfectly.

As they say we learn something new everyday, and for me it is memory sticks and USB SD card readers are not the same thing.

I use spotify connected via bluetooth for music ( but it has a CD player built in + Radio )so audio is pretty well looked after. The USB I thought has another function, connected to either NAVI ( memory for remembered routes? ) The 2nd connection slot is definitely for phones though,,,,,there were 3 different adaptors in the console, for 3 different makes of phone. When you plug in the phone to use WAZE, does it show up on the car sat nav screen?

yes it does. I have Command and when Apple Car Play is Active the built in car screen displays just as my iPhone does. One can then select the icons to suit

If you said from the start you was using a adapter I could have told you it doesn’t work :)

Up until yesterday I thought they were two of the same. But clearly they're not.

32gb sd hc - fat 32. Works absolutely fine as a memory stic substitute on evrything I have tried it in apart from MBUX.

It makes little difference that it does not work in the merc, cost me a few quid for a 'true' memory stick and the MBUX system works wonderfully with that. And the voice command to select whatever track or artist I want to listen to is also pretty dam good too, but that is may be for another thread.

I’ve got a feeling the memory size of your SD and USB may be too big for the Mercedes system. I can’t find anything specific in my manual other than this statement:

The multimedia system supports data carriers with up to 50,000 files.

In the case of a data carrier with more than 64 GB of stored data, only files in folders with the following names are supported: Music, Pictures, Video.

This seems to imply that if your music is not in a folder called “Music” the system can’t recognise it.

I've tried to put movies ,video clips and songs in folders called movies, clips, music and doesn't work, then I've tried to put everything without folders ...same thing ,didn't worked. I'm thinking is about formatting my sd card and USB, maybe needs them specified formatting.
