I have read a number of threads on the issue of using the hand(foot) brake in an automatic mercedes - many people like me just hold the car on the brakes and leave it in drive when stopped - that is until I found that I could use my sbc stop braking system to hold the vehicle - anybody have any views on using this function ?
Cheers

was a good function, but the SBC had its faults, hence no longer fitted but was a good if not the best for stopping power!!

thats what I do.
As you say, there's been a lot of chatter about the subject, some folk think you should use the handbrake but those of us who know something about the mechanicals of a handbrake know better :)

Been some issues with brake lights malfunctioning which could be due to overlong application of the brake pedal as the "foot" handbrake seems awkward compared to conventional handbrake so people just hold on the foot brake.

Also, in handbrake design,a pistol grip handbrake was always to put handbrake on and a twist to release rather than a pull release.

A long, long running thread.
When I'm behind someone who keeps the footbrake on at traffic lights etc, usually with the indicators blinking in my eyes, I just smile through the dazzle and whistle a happy tune.
But I'm thinking! And I can't be arrested yet for thinking - or can I?

If you sit a little further back David this is not a problem. You do not have to look at the lamps,, look at the traffic lights instead, or at the cars further up the road. If in town look at some females walking around in Winter with a very short skirt and a bare midriff.

This is no different to looking at the lights of cars at night coming towards you. Dont look at them, for I for one will never use the parking brake or put the car into N or D while sitting in traffic

Malcolm wants me to look at 20 stone South Yorkshire lasses wandering about half dressed. Have I really got to make an attempt to get carnal thoughts going because that's apparently allowed, or can I just pretend I'm thinking about the girls?
