Mine is very simple really, it's the name of our house, Little Brook, and my name Lyn after it.

For the life of me I can't see how to gain anonymity having set up my membership in all honesty not intending to hide behind the vail of obscurity.
Seems impossible to change things now, or beyond my understanding of the system.

so was I, and mine's the short version

Are we to take it that mercmonkey is not your real name? It would have looked good on your driving licence, or as a job description even.

no my real name is Chimpy McFlightsuit.

Seriously tho, the name stems back to my childhood, when my dad used to race hot rods, I used to go help him and in the pit area I was always refered to as his "spanner monkey"

The long arms dont help much either

Maybe it would be better if we just left the mystery of the names. I don't think Colin Chapman ever said why he used the name Lotus? The lyrics of American Pie still remain a mystery as well.

If you really must know where my name came from, read on...

Way back when computers were a new thing I and decided to try out the internet, it used to cost money to use the telephone line to connect your 14k modem. I had been annoying a friend who had just open a resteraunt about his stock pot having two many turnips in it and said he should just call it turnip stock.

When I logged in for the first time, it asked for a name so I put in turnipstock. It came back saying I was only allowed 10 letters so I had to quickly change it, so i pulled out a 't' and Turnipsock was born.

That was about 12 years ago and I still use the same name. The chef went on to be a TV celeb chef and now drives about in an Aston Martin. He is lost in show business and rarely gives me a wave even though I taught him everything he knows about mushrooms and he used to use the exact words, that I spoke to him, in the media!

Actually I had a 300 bps modem, as well, that I built myself. I then had a RS232 card that I plugged into my Amstrad PCW. It was once leading edge technology you know. The modem was the size of a shoebox and was all discreate components.

I thought if I mentioned that, nobody would know what i was on about.
