V class info

I know my next purchase will me my first Mercedes, but with one wife, 2 toiddlers, + a greyhound to accomodate, I was in the market for an E class estate. Out of curisosity I visited local dealer with V230, on test drive later, I think I am prepared to accept the non car like driving sensation for the space.

I want to know if a V280 will pull my 1300 KG Caravan? I dont want to over heat the gear box, and I want the self levelling suspension to cope. Does any one have any expereince of caravan towing and V class, what is the best engine/tranmission for effortless caravan cruising hour after hour? should I get 280 auto, or manual or diesel?

It looks like V class residuals are poorer tha E class, any advice rewarded.

As you know the V-class was developed from the mercedes van and most reviews say that it isn't a very good MPV. Granted, you have the extra space over an E-Class, but in 3-years you will also loose a lot more money. If you really need the space, then look at some other brands that were designed as MPV's to begin with.

To tow a caravan safely, you need some weight and some power and 4-WD helps. Diesels are usually good for towing. Have you looked at a S/H Rangerover or even M-Class?
