V-Class suspention. help please

Hi, I own a V class 230 1998-99. I had starter trouble every now and then needing to give the starter a little knock, the last time i did this i crossed the terminals and the air suspention light came on, now i have changed the starter the light comes on and then off it appears to pump the suspention up to a drive-able status, when you turn the key off the light appears for about 3 seconds confirming that there is a fault. Im thinking that i have blown the control unit all fuses look ok. Looking for ideas.
