v220 cdi engine off heater

hope this is right section
my v220 cdi has a system that allows the heater to continue heating the cabin for a certain amount of time after the engine has been stopped.

i think that the system uses / burns diesel.

the manual says that the system should be used every so often , presumably to keep it clean, prevent blockages etc.
i,m sure this has not been done.

this system does not appear to work any more and wonder if any one can help here
