Problem with Mercedes V220 ZF auto gear box.

The following as occurred several times. After being stood for a few day on starting to drive away. It stays in first gear and won’t change up the gears. I select 1st and other gears in an attempt to get it to start changing gear but it doesn’t . After a short time the gearbox warning light comes on. The gear box goes in to limp mode / fault mode and locks in forth gear. I pull over stop the engine by turning ignition off.

I then restart the engine the fault light is now out.

And low and behold the gearbox driver as it should no problems at all. Stop for different periods of time during the day. But on returning to the vehicle it selects gear as it should.

Anyone any ideas on what would cause it to behave like this.

Mileage..?
I do not have a V220 CDI. It appears to be an electrical fault.
Can you see the electrical connector to the gearbox without removing the guard plates..? I would make sure that is not loose and is clean,

In that case try charging the battery up to fully charged and see if that cures it.

When it’s left parked up. It’s left hooked up to a trickle charger. So battery fully charged.Plus it a nearly new battery
