ive recently bought a 1997 v230 petrol and every thing was fine for the first few weeks and suddenly the air suspension has packed up. its stuck in the lowest position and the body is rubbing on the tyres, if i press the button on the centre console the light on the dash flashes but nothing happens and once i let go of the button the lights just stays on.

ive read a few posts on here and realise this is a bit of a common problem and was wondering if anyone had any advice. i know alot of people swap for springs, how easy is this and how is it done and is its easier to fit a new motor or fix the original.

also how do i check to make sure it is actually the compressor/motor as i dont want to change them for no reason.

thanx in advance for any help
Eddie

No, when you get it up on the stand you will see that the air bags have No 8 attached as part of them, make sure the air is out of them, its easier to get to the bolts (as far as I can remember). I just cut the airlines and took the compressor fuse out.

v230 air suspension problems

Hi
Have been reading these posts. It sounds like this is a common problem. I had the suspension light staying on on my V230, and I was told by the garage that the bellows were leaking (fairy liquid test). I had them replaced for £400, and the suspension now stays up overnight. But if the car is left for a couple of days, the suspension is right down at the back. When this happens, I switch on the engine and it takes 15 minutes for the car to start pumping the suspension up. The light stays on during this time and the suspension shows no sign of moving. After 15 minutes the light goes out and suspension is up a fraction. Does this mean that the pump is knackered as well, or that something electrical has blown? (Should I just look for a garage that can replace with springs??)

Probably the pump that is failing.
I recently had a quote of £400 to replace the pump.

Why pay £400 for a pump when you can fit a spring kit for just over £300 and never have to worry about any of it failing again!!

I didn't realise the spring kits were so cheap.
