vacuum plugs

under the bonnet there is a black pipe coming out of the manifold which is a vacume and i believe goes into a little box which a plug plugs in the top and then a black pipe comes out and goes into a metal pipe( which looks like a brake pipe) the plug is located in front of the black ecu box....... my plug is unplugged, also at the other side there is another identicle plug which is unplugged...... asr and abs lights are on! slk 230

O.K. I am looking at the grey plug with the 2 wires pale blue/orange on the r/h edge of your picture. This should (& looks as if it is )plug into a cylindrical valve with the letters <MOT & an arrow> in white on top , part of the ESP system.You have to pull the wire retaining clip away horizontally to allow for removal & reconnection , then clip back in.
Not sure where the other plug you refer to is on the other side.Is it on the opposite side of the engine in front of the bulkhead ,as that is wher the brake servo is (dinner plate size) & has a similar connector. If unplugged should be a corresponding female socket to connect to.
Has someone been doing any work on the car or were the warning lights always on? They may have been disconnected as part of a troubleshoot & left off inadvertently so simple to resolve, or deliberately to conceal some problem.......??

it turns out its the purge control valve.... not sure what it does....mines been bypassed.... how about the same plug on the other side???
