A friend has had a problem with his CL-600 (MY2000) and after a lengthy period with the local MB dealer they handed him a bill for over £2500 (for diagnosing the problem) telling him that he needed a new valve block for his suspension. He has been quoted silly money by the dealer for replacing it.

Does anyone know where you can either buy a replacement or get his own remanufactured ??

When he starts it instead of it coming up and levelling off all round, he was getting some corners coming up and others staying down. The final straw was when he started it and only the back came up, but the front wouldn't lift and as a result you couldn't turn without the wheels fouling the wing.

Thanks,I will take a look, but it does sound like the block

As long as the control part is OK it does look like the valve block on the ABC that has failed

This means that they are not sure of what one has failed, so if they fit both, they stad a good chance of finding the fault

Indeed.

An easy solution with someone else's money.

There are two blocks (front & rear). Quite easy to fit if you have access to a ramp. Retail at about £900 + VAT but can be found for as little as £80 from a crashed car. All 215 CLs have ABC, so "should" all be the same but phone round & find a friendly MB parts man to comfirm. Must be bled afterwards. There are bleed nipples between rear wheels & diff + can be bled via return line to resovoir. This way will use lots of oil (maybe 8-9 litres) but at least can be done without dealer. Use ONLY oil. Ask for green 2403 PAS/ABC oil. Do NOT let the pump run dry. System runs at 200bar, be carefull of spraying eyes.....
