Just had the misfortune to have had the driver's door mirror vandalised on my Mercedes 2004 C200K Coupe which has many top of the range add-ons. The repair bill might interest members: Fit O/S door mirror £89.50
Frame £242, Housing £64.50, Indicator £16.70, Mirror glass £275(part no.MA203 810 04 21) , VAT £120 total £809.22 .
I asked for an explanation of the amazing cost of the mirror glass and was informed that it was made of variomatic glass to reduce headlight glare which had never previously been obvious to me!! Would have thought door mirrors were rather too vulnerable for such expensive glass!!

Yea if they would spend more time making door mirrors that u could see other vehicles in then that would worth buying ...and I kinda rekon that is the real reason for mirrors. I think your insurance company should be helping with enquiries.. just ask and see what they say ....

Not surprised ... 700 to 800 quid seems the going rate amongst colleagues who've had wing mirrors nicked from their C and E classes. Seems the yobs prefer the folded in mirrors as they're easier to prise off ... that's why I've stopped folding mine in now when it's parked in public.

Hi ouchie

I was wondering whether you use the term 'vandalised' to mean your door mirror was deliberately targeted or whether you are using the term to describe the all-to-familiar 'passing damage' resulting from one inconsiderate driver getting too close to another stationary vehicle? Both my door mirrors have suffered the latter damage and on each occasion the bodyshop was able to perform an invisible repair which was a lot cheaper than the charges you faced. Mind you, I didn't have to replace the special glass mirrors.

REGARDS

Well I'm not sure that I would stop folding mine in. It's like a secret masonic code to other drivers of good cars - my mirrors are folded, therefore I won't crack my door into your car because I care about such things. Consequently I try to park (very carefully of course) next to any car with folded mirrors.

I will park next to CLK270's where possible from now on, in the remote hope that it might be yours ... (and I will avoid pranging you, before you ask !).

Triggers a memory, was taliking to an owner of top range A class couple of years ago, he had his drivers mirror broken off completely and he was quoted something in the region of £750,,outrageous when its supposed to be competing with more reasonably priced smaller mpv's.

I've been flirting with the idea of a post 04 211 and news likes this swiftly kicks ideas like that back into the ether.

Please do so, and when I return to the car park and see your car (no doubt with it's mirrors inwards) I will breathe a sigh of relief and say to myself.... "Another Good Guy"

Well at least it started some interesing comments, I feel much better already!
Reference the vandalised comment this is the view of the garage and police as the cowling was completely unmarked but the casting had been then forced back towards the bonnet and the mirror removed!
