I have recently exported my 97 CL 420 from UK to New Zealand. After Loads of hassle getting it through the various customs and testing people and spending a fortune getting ti sandblasted underneath I have finally got it! It was for sale on a garage forecourt in UK for 7 month before I shipped it out here and no that I have received it there are some pretty basic electrical problems with it.
1) The fan for the climate control is not working. I have checked the fuse but I am not sure where to look next and how to get tot it. It may be that the motor has stopped after not being used for so long
2) The car has Parktronic sensors which were fitted from new I believe. These have now stopped wotking and when I swtich on the ignition the sensor flash the small inside indicators on the dash and then seem to switch themselves off. When I switch them back on with the switch they beep as if the car is close to smothing but then switch themselves off again
3) As part fo the safety check when the car arrived here I had to change the driver's seat belt for a new one. This was done by a garage and cost a fortune but now the electric arm is not coming out to pass the setabelt to the driver. The passenger one is working fine. It may be that the garage did not pulg the motor in but I can find any way to check this and I dread giving the car back to the bunch of cowboys at the garage where it was fitted.

My advice for anyone silly enough to think about brining a car to NZ is dont bother. Whilst the cost of shipping it was quite low (<3100) the hassle to get it into the country is unbelievebale. you get milked for every penny imaginable!

Any help for my electrical problems would be much appreciated!!

Am no expert but I'd aim for the relays (should be shown where in handbook) & consult same for 'parktronic' which should beep once to let you know that circuit is functioning.

Surely theres a merc dealer over there that could at least give you an estimate of repairs needed with some small insight as to what the cause may be?
Or is it that you have shipped out a model that doesn't exist out there?

Hello mate,

The heater blower fan Is located under the bonnet. If you open up the bonnet just below the windscreen is a big black plastic panel that run's from the n/s to just covering the brake fluid pot. I think there are about 4 or 5 big phillps screws undo them and possibly so vaccum hose and lift off then you will see the cabin filter remove that. Once you have done that you should be able to see blower motor, check that it spins freely ( make sure ignition is OFF). They do suffer from water getting into motor and seizing up. It could also be a problem with the motor regulator. Your parking sensor probelm sound like it's possibly a sensor stopped working as if its a o.e system that how most of them work, If a sensor goes down it shuts system down. I'm not sure what to say about seatbelt hand over arm I'lll have a think if i come up with anything i'll posted it

Hope this helps a little
