Just wondered if anyone can help, ive had a search but none of the problems are quite the same as im suffering.

Basically, 1992 190e, 2lt 150k

Problems:
Windows mist up if left for over 2 odd hours, regardless of weather. Now im guessing that water is accumilating somewhere but i cant find any. looked under back seat swab, front footwells etc. Are there any common places that water accumilates, say from blocked sunroof drains possibly?

Secondly the car sits at 4200rpm at 80mph. this seems a little high to me and gives rather loud crusing, is this the correct amount of revs for the vehicle?

Cold start problems. Vehicle starts if u accelerator is floored, will not start without accelerator. Will not idle or run below about 2k rpm, but if held at 2k with accelerator until warm, engine idles and drives perfectly. After reading around could it be the cold start valve with the bimettalic strip, if so, where is it? (not the supplimentary air device or the injector, the little item that controls these)

Windscreen wiper problem. The wiper will park randomly on the screen when used on intermittant setting. never stops in the same place, but if u time it just as it starts its arc and turn it off, it will park in the correct place on the opposite side of the screen, if u see what i mean. I.e the time it operates for seems to be correct, but something else is amiss

Cruise cnotrol has packed up. Wil not keep to a speed, once set, it operates for a few seconds the turns off. Been reading, could be brake pads being low but any other suggestions?

Sorry for the long post, any help would be much appriciated.

Cheers, Mat.

mine is far lower than that in 5th, can't be specific, but suspect the 3 to 3.5 K mark. I should be able to because I drove to Nuneaton + back in it yesterday at just that speed !! That toll road is ACE despite the 3 quid...

new dizz cap, plugs, leads + rotor arm from mercedes won't do any harm. Did that to mine and it catches as soon as the starter engages; it was a bit of a sod before that; same as the W124 is now, which I haven't got round to doing yet.

It teams up too, haven't done much investigation, but on the W124 there are flaps in the boot that can get clarted up; these allow stale air to pass out of the car. might be worth a look.

80mph in 5th = a gnats cock under 3K rpm. Didn't try + see how fast 4.5K would take me this morning because it was way to ****** windy...

I presume your's is an auto, or else the stick is set incorrectly, but assuming the tacho is correct, then you ain't in top.
LNM - based on you figures, 4.5k = 120 - may not be a good idea :)

Ok silly question but worth asking - how clean are your windows? There are a lot of discussions on this around this time of year. But if the car is warm and you let some damp outside air in by opening the door, it could be enough to cause the misting you describe if the inside of the windows aren't clean. Especially if the is no aircon to dry things out.
I know it's time to drop the read headrests and stuff up my shoulder again, when I need the rear demist.
You may have a leak, but I would expect it to mist up a lot faster than that, if there a puddle somewhere. Other than that, the usual suspects, rear light clusters/boot, carpets, seat swabs etc

The wiper parking as far as I am aware is not done on timing but gearing. It sounds like there are gears slipping/worn in the mechanism.

Don't know enough about the other items to comment - but there are plenty of others on here that do.

I'd change the water temp sensor first as its fairly cheap and they fail at some point. You can find sensor near front of cylinder head its got two electrical connectors and has a brass "neck".

cheers for the suggestions, dont suppose i could measure the water temp sensor to check its condition? not related to the temp gauge inside the car is it, becuase that is reading fine?
Sorry jberks, it is an auto yes, what would be the point of a 190 with a wobbly stick and a clutch, you can't waft around in lazy mode!:) Have given the windows a good clean on many occasions, so i would hope its not that, but then again...it doesnt cost anything to do them again.
LNM, have changed all those parts recently in a bid to cure a really bad running fault (used to stutter all the time and stall when in drive and stationary) new rotor arm cured that, touch wood. Will have to check on the wiper gearing etc as it is a tad annoying as im sure you can understand. Hopefully i can get the cold starting sorted as it will not start at all without the accelerator, then it runs really rich, very odd.

cheers for the suggestions, keep them comin
