VDO ECU Connector for reprogramming

Hello guyz can anyone help me please i have that VDO ECU and i want someone to tell me which connector and diagnostic tool to use in order to get into this ECU (see attached pic) and copy its files and install it in a new ECU

Hello and welcome,, it can only be done when plugged into the car,,and it is done on a STAR diagnostic set up.

Thanks Malcom for your reply but for example if its defected and i need to replace it with another one, i must copy the files from the old one to the new one right?? do u know connectors that connects directly to the computer in order to reprogram it??

Just recode the new one. Nothing needs to be done to the old one.

I was charged half hour by Merc dealership to recode my new one.

Make sure the new one you buy is a proper match to your car spec.

There are several part numbers and the ECU has to match the car as follows:

* Country model

* Auto or manual

* 4 speed auto or 5 speed auto

* Air con or not

* ASR or not

* etc etc etc
