Hello guys/gals,

I've been wondering about the OEM security on my W211 E320Cdi estate. It has no deadlocks like my SAAB did but I've always assumed that as a £40K car the security was going to be excellent. However a guy I know has his new R class go missing off his drive recently. What are your thoughts about how secure W211's are? Do any of you add any extra security devices like steering wheel shrouds or bars. If so, what type/brand can you recommend that will fit without any damage to trim?

AFAIK there is no way of getting a merc going without the key.
True, there are no deadlocks but to be fair, they don't add much. If someone is after something inside the car, then a lean through a window will do it. If they want the whole car, at least with an EIS equipped merc, they'll need the key or a tow truck.
The only extra I have is a tracker. As the most likely way to lose the car is someone breaking into the house and stealing the keys, the tracker is the most effective weapon. That and whenever possible, she's locked out of sight, in the garage.
