Hi all. My 2011 Viano had its aircon regas done about 2 years ago. Since then, I had noticed that the blower didn't seem to be as strong as before and I needed to have it on level 3 or 4 to work properly. Also it was noisier, with a noticeable grumble while the aircon was working. The regas wasn't done at the dealers as I urgently needed it done before a long trip. I'm regretting that now. Anyway, lately, the overhead control panel for the rear aircon does not illuminate when I press the rear air con button on the dash. I have put the icarsoft on but its not coming up with a fault and to test the aircon, it doesnt give the option for the Viano (if I'm not mistaken.....). Any help appreciated.

My Viano is a 2012, I wonder if you have exactly the same setup as mine? I assume if so you are turning the rear aircon on and off pushing the lower section of the button that's marked A/C Rest. The two images of the rear aircon controls are one with it on and the other with it switched off just showing an "O".

General comments...

If your system is working and leak free virtually anyone should be able to re-gas correctly, you don't need a dealer.

Referring to blower speed don't you just leave it on Auto normally? If it was on Auto and a re-gas improved the cooling perhaps the fan didn't need to run so fast for the same cooling effect? I can't think of any reason why the blower would be noisier for a re-gas.

OK so the rear aircon console doesn't illuminate but does the rear aircon work? Perhaps just a backlight bulb gone?

Once fixed use it all the time, auto setting, summer and winter, no fogged up windows etc.
Use it or loose it.

I could use it all the time but I have a bit of a sinus issue so I try to avoid aircon when possible. Also, the fuel economy is a consideration.

Thanks for your comments. Found out that the fuse for the rear aircon was in the wrong place in the fusebox. Must have been me so I'm not very proud of that one. My aircon has worked ok this summer but still a bit weaker than it should be and also that annoying low grumble which is noticeable when the car is at low speeds or in traffic.

It sounds more like the fan is playing up.
Mine is left on setting 2 (mine isn't the posh system of post 2). It runs near silently, unless I turn it for faster to clear the screen, but that is rare for me.
