Niche post but might help someone searching when thinking about this in the future.
Despite often making brisk progress I'm a very non-competitive and courteous driver so rarely need to blow the horn for months at a time... but there are situations when a good blast might just stop something developing and I was amused when the Viano arrived at its pathetic mouse with a sore throat horn sound.... more like I remember of a 60s Viva. Looking online this is a grumble often made about Viano/Vitos and when I eventually tracked down the horn's location to find a small cheap single tone unit it's no wonder.
Looked at adding an OE second tone but they are £60 from Mercedes and I wasn't convinced of the possible improvement. Then I tripped across this guy's blog when looking for reverse camera ideas where he reports on a horn upgrade with a twin tone set from a BMW 5-series. Of course just the perfect out of my way sound they'd equipped that vehicle with.
So I bought a pair from a 2006 5-series for £13 inc post... importantly with electrical plugs and wire tails as they are not a connection you could get generic spade connectors onto.... a bargain.
As the central Mercedes grille logo stands a bit proud with exact positioning plus making a second bracket copied from the original there was just enough room to fit the pair where the original had been. I just made a Y split in the wiring from the single horn.
A seriously great tone somewhat on the urgent side of refined.... just enough to flip a mobility scooter at 50 yards... possibly the best value job so far on this vehicle.

Improving the Mercedes Vito W639 Horn - Mercedes Gen-In
Fitting was easy. Lift the bonnet, remove the three screws on the top of the grille, un-slot it and remove it up and out from the Vito.
