Vibration after near full lock & power

Hi All, I've just bought an 2003 ML270 Auto Inspiration in Black, and I'm, really impressed. Coming to work yesterday I pulled off from a standing start with nearly fully lock and a bit of power (I was waiting to get round a parked car). When I did this I got a high pitched squealing sound from the front of the car. After straightening up this sound continued. After 4 miles I pulled over to make sure I hadn't picked something up in the tyres, but nothing. When I started the engine again, it was fine.
Was this just down to making the PAS pump work too hard?

Normally the thing that squeels is the belt, though that normally stops once you straighten up, the relief valve operates at full lock, maybe something stuck, see how it goes.
