When i start my car from cold (230ce '90) starts smooth... then when i select drive it vibrates and does so as i pull away. its only within the 1st few mins of driving then its ok. i replaced the engine mounts within the last 10-15,000 miles. the car has done about 175k in total.

the idle speed when started (cold) is about 900 rpm, when selecting "d" it drops to probably 700rpm

This is normal, could be a looose mtg. did you replace the gearbox mtg? Or you could have a slight misfire only evident when cold under a bit of load. plug lead maybe?

MTG? not sure what that is, but i dont think i have replaced it! i really dont think its a missfire, just feels like something is loose and shaking alot.. like possibly the whole engine!

MTG = mounting, engines do move around on bad mounts ,they also sit at the wrong angle.

Malcolm

I like the tittle here, as I get viabrations when hot

If you have some ramps, a jack, and big bit of wood, you can do it yourself.
