no, not good ones. 97 sl500 standard alloys. ive been gradually (wheel by wheel) replacing knackered pirelli p600`s with davidsl500 favourite - gyear eagle f1gsd3. have now got all 4 corners done. great grip/tread etc BUT.....and this may be a coincidence....... I now have the "vibes"
description : at all speeds (40 - 120!! )vibes felt through steering wheel and seat, passenger headrest doing a strange dance, worse on rough road surfaces. Ive had all wheels re-balanced twice, made sure theyre fitted spot on etc.
I cant remember kerbing it but there are some evil alp-like speed humps round here! Any suggestions - tracking? bushes? ball joints? driveshaft? or are these "quality" tyres `not fit for pupose`

When you had them rebalanced, did you get this done at the same place or a different establishment?

How much difference in wear is there as you have them changed at different times.

You could try swapping the wheels, front to back, and see if that makes any difference.

I went to a different place for the re-balance. there is only a few weeks between fittings - minimal wear difference.

It is normally just the balance, though tracking can play a part.
I had mine balanced when the tyres were fitted but I wasn't impressed at the way they did it and had the shakes so I took it elswhere. We took a wheel off and popped it on the machine - way off. Then checked and found they'd left the old weights on and balanced against them. Ripped all the weights off and started again on all 4 which did the trick.
Go somewhere reputable and have them show you the 0:0 readings.

I tried three places the last time I had tryres fitted (GSD3's too...). The first two lots of tyre monkeys either (a) didn't actually balance the wheels at all.....(b) did it really badly (c) hit one of my AMG alloys with a hammer to "straighten it up....."

I eventually took it to Wembly Tyres in Willesden. They do a lot of top-end specualist stuff and had no problems sorting out the mess the others had made.

In 25 years of car ownership this is the first time I have had this problem.

PS great tyres by the way :)

My car used to vibrate after 50mph, throught the seat , steering wheel and accelerator, turned out a bolt was missing from underneath (the prop shaft)

thanks for your thoughts so far. will try wheel swaps 1st, then use spare to try and identify if 1 in particular is the culprit. anymore suggestions welcome, particularly a QUALITY tyre place in Gtr Manchester, or its off to the indie.

I did not see this till now, but I can only agree with the other post. odd thing was with My SL, just before I had the wheels refurbished I put all the tyres back on and used the car for a few weeks with out the wheels being balanced and for the best part it was fine.

There is only two parts to the car that can cause it to shake, that is propshaft and wheel banlance, ok under extreme cases the engine mounts can upset the propshaft.

vibrations update

 having had sl given a thorough investigation by my excellent indie (wheel balance, tracking, suspension, steering damper etc) and been pronounced A1, his suggestion was :
the tyres are good but maybe the compound/tread pattern does not suit the sl.
4 new tyres need to "wear in".
he recalled an SIS? whilst m/dealer mech which recommended dunlops as replacements for OEM due to complaints about road noise/vibes from punters-this was late 90`s
any thoughts out there ?????
