Hi Guys

I just wanted to know how serious this problem is. Whenever I am on the motorway though I only been on the motorway 3 or 4 times since I have my car for 2 years now, the steering would vibrate if I do 70 mph

Sounds like wheel balancing is the first thing to have checked at your your tyre depot. If vibrations still occur then suspension checks should be undertaken

Dont let the Gibbon's from Krap Fit any where near a decent set of alloys or you'll regret it, or your Merc.

Here Here.. please don't go anywhere near KF!. Years ago I had an exhaust front pipe changed on my first car a Mk 2 Cavalier SRI  - It never really felt right but after 6 months the mid section needed repairing - so I took it back to KF:rolleyes:, to have the same guy who only 6 months earlier fitted the front pipe try it on by saying it was 'thining' and needed replacing.. when I told him he could fit a new one under guarantee as he originally fitted it 6 months old he went quiet. An ATS guy later reckoned they were on commission so tried it on!

More concerning is the story of my neighbours who had their brake dics changed by them - Only to find some miles down the road that their brakes started failing. Seems the two 'technicians' - yeah right - working on each side of the car decided to race each other, and the winner didnt put back all he'd taken off! Ended up with one gettign sacked, and neighbours getting compensation to keep quiet about it.
If you fancy a third story - im sure I've read here somewhere the amusingly told tail of a KF technician cutting off an exhaust with the OxyA, only to cut through a fuel pipe.. oops! Long and short, everyone got out, but the garage ended up like a scene from Apocalypse Now.

And why didn't my Cav feel right... A Mechanic mate of mine who worked for Vauxhall later spotted that they'd fitted the wrong front pipe..

Hi mate what happens if you go over 70,if it is okay at say 80 or so it is probably wheel balance,
I have just changed my wheels and tyres and get vibration at 70,I havent had the wheels balanced yet, will be getting them done shortly.
If I do say 85 the car is dead steady,
but not really a good excuse to get caught speeding

Have you seen the post in "Suspension, Steering and Brakes" entitled "W210 MOT Failed How Bad Is It?" started by cyps?

In one of the replies, Parrot of Doom reckons that Lower Control Arm Bushes can cause vibrations at 60mph.

Worth a look eh?

True they can , but no where near as bad as unbalanced wheels.

Getting wheel balance chacked should be quick, easy and cheap. Once that's ruled out you can look at further, more expensive items.
