VIN Plate location

HI, Can anyone tell me where the vin plate should be located on a 71/72 350sl. I've looked and can't find it anywhere. It may have been removed?? But if I know where it's supposed to go at least I can find out if it is missing??

I think it's on the cross-beam

tha runs between the wings, just in front of the radiator. That's where it is on both my SL and my 124. It should be either riveted or screwed on, a little aluminium plate with chassis no. max weights and all that.
