is this caused by oil or diesel? totally black very hard and brittle maybe been accumulating for ages as hidden under plastic cover. Interested to know as now the injectors are 'fixed' there appears to be oil around injectors in pockets within cam cover. how the oil gets there is also baffling can it pass up worn threads around injector clamp bolts? cos I cant see where else it could come from!

Hi there This black crud around the base of the injectors is carbon buildup from the lower copper washer in the head. It is 90 % probability that the injectors have been out at some stage and they havent cleaned the injector seat with a special wire brush set. You can chip away at it and blow out the carbon or soak it in mr muscle oven cleaner and that disolves it partialy. I would suggest having the seats checked and cleaned once the injectors are out as it can often erode the seats. The oil can also come from the breather at the back left on the rocker cover when the black cover is put on there is a horrible pipe to get on undeneath. If that is left off then yo uget fresh oil from there.

Thanks guys, in the cleaning process did remove and scrape crud of breather assy at back left, yep total nightmare to try to get the small O ringed flanges on base to mate with head so will check that this is ok first.
I think injectors are sealing as was really carefull checking and cleaning seats.
