Hello there,

My 1999 Vito is suffering from what appears to be the "usual" problem with the cdi engines; injector #4 is chuffing away merrily!!

The threads for the #4 injector retainer have been previously helicoiled in situ, but now even that has stripped out; it looks like we either get a replacement head or get the head removed and repaired.

I've got chance of a more recent head (complete) of a later 110cdi...

This begs the question, are the 110cdi (611.980 engine) heads interchangeable?

N.B I've got details of a firm in Scotland that do a bolt upgrade to the head, if anyone's interested??

Great site everyone....

Regards & thanks

if your engine is same as my 220 cdi.
the injectors are held down by a single 6mm bolt.

if this has a stripped helicoil, the chances are that the bolt hole is now closer to 7mm with the old dead helicoil removed.

it might save you a lot of dosh to see if you can drill the hole 6.8mm (prob won't remove much meat), and tap 8mm x 1.25 .
then drill the clamp to 8.25 or 8.5 (easier).
this will allow you to fit an 8mm bolt.

i know it's not the perfect solution, and it does introduce odd fasteners to the set.

but, hey... it might just get you out of jail with minimum outlay. and if you consider this head as dead then nowt to lose.

Hi Everyone,
My 1999 112cdi (190,000 miler) has had this problem (injector seat leak) 5 times.
My local garage have removed the injector and replaced the copper washer each time (they made a special tool to remove the injector) a cheap part but 3-4 hour job so expensive, £2-300.
I'm obviously fed up with this problem, and my garage have suggested that I may require a new cylinder head. Is this the only solution? Any ideas anyone?

Thankyou

I believe that Delphi make a tool to re-cut the bottom of the injector hole. I maybe wrong but i think there is a company that does it somewhere.

Hi, dont know if you read my post, 'Leaking injector 300d w124' but i have similar leak but it's coming out of a tiny hole at top of injector threads, i also replaced washer, but will still have to get to garage very soon

ML 270cdi 2002. 12000 milesHyundai i10 2009.
Euro Car Parts market a whole range of tools to solve this problem.
They do an extractor to remove siezed injectors and a reamer to re-cut the injector seating in the cyl. head. All of which can be done with the head in situ.
Hope this helps.

Be careful here boys, not as easy as you think, it's a Vito limited access!!! Common faul on these and all cdi engines, if there are tight then it could end up a new head, so beware. MB do a set of wire brushes for cleaning out the injector holes, after you have got them out that is, but it's tight to get them in, so we some times drop the engine to get good access. Remember there is a special grease for reassemble makes them easier to get out next time.

cdi injector screw

Ihave repaired a lot of these cylinder heads which allows use of the original stretch bolt even after they have been helicoiled or tapped out to m8 which uses a hardend insert with far greater pull out strenth than original set up.:p
