vito glowplug warning light

my 03 vito 110cdi has developed an intermitant fault.The glowplug warning light comes on while the engine is running.Turning ignition on and off can clear it. I first noticed it about a fortnite ago and it would only happen occasionaly for the last 3 days it seems to happen every time i drive and if the lights been on before you leave vehicle battery is flat when you return

anyone any ideas
