Vito/2010/2.1l diesel
Hi all, this is my first post. I hope I've put it in the right place.
My 2010 Vito was chuffing on cylinder 4. I removed 1, 2 and 3 easily. 4 didn't want to shift. By then, working at -8°C, the engine was cold. So, I thought to replace 1 to 3, run till hot, and work quickly having had practice run. I had some cheap replacement stretcher bolts as well as MB real deal. Since they can only be used once, I figured I'd use the cheap ones, then replace. All fine till cylinder 4. Clamping down the 4th stretcher bolt has stripped the first 3 turns. Realising it was not good I stopped. The cheap bolt was the culprit.
Where to go now? Injector 4 still stuck, thread damaged, engine cold. I assume the rocker cover must come off to tap the thread, but injector stuck...
Help please.

Soak around injector. I assume nothing but crxp holding it in if so disconnect fuel solenoid so can't start put old towel over injector and try cranking motor. Compression might blow it out?

Ahh cheapy bolts. Always buy genuine bolts from the dealer.
If the first few threads are damaged try very carefully using a metal pick to clear the grooves and realign for the new bolt.
Its imperative that the entire bolt hole is clean of any black death is present as the new bolt wont hold down properly otherwise.
I also hope you cleaned the bore hole faces and used new sealing washers. If not you will be doing the job again in 6 months.

If you have black death, then car cleaner works well at melting it, but you need lots of paper towels to clean the resulting black sludge.

Okay, so injector been soaking with carb cleaner for a week. Turned engine over. Didn't shift it. It is chuffing- that's why it needs to come out, but also that means lost compression.

Yes, I cleaned the bores and injector seats and put new washers.
On the damaged thread I managed to clean using a bolt with slots cut in it as chaser. It will not be as good as new though. If I ever get injector 4 out I might tap it and bush it.

Many do as ajlsl600 suggested. Run the engine with it loose and it will hopefully pop.
Is it solid and not even moving a mm.

Since no 4 is the problem injector you need to get it out or its a fruitless exercise. Persevere - you will do it. If you are struggling too much - take a break. Struggling leads to more oomph which often leads to things shearing.
