Hi, has anyone had a similar fault? Itermittently, over the past two weeks, my van has not started. When I put the key in and turn it nothing happens, no noise and the dashboard continues to show the mileage from when I opened the door. The first time it happened I gave up and tried later and it started easily first time. I suspected the Main battery, had it checked and replaced it as it was showing 56% strength, but has done it twice since.

Thank you very much, that is an interesting article on EIS. It sounds like this is something only the garage can narrow down, i.e. whether it's the key, EIS, ESL or ECU which is at fault. Maybe they can tell with their diagnostics what has been happening. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again
Colin

Mine done similar couple of weeks ago but ignition lights were on and wouldn't turn over one morning, ended up battery was low so charged it and that cured it. You have a new battery so thats ruled out, does it turn over normal or labour a bit while starting? check new battery is still up to correct voltage in case its being drained somehow.

Thanks for your reply. When it starts it is on first turn but the three times it failed there was nothing, no noise and only the mileage showing on the dash from when the door is opened. So i think both main battery and key fob battery is ok. Ive booked it in to mercedes commercial next week they advised to try spare key if it happens again between then and now.
Thanks again. I'll post updates
Colin

Update of Vito not starting. Before van went to western commercial Dundee, 21.10.2020, it failed to start several times with both the main and spare key. Western Commercial Dundee replaced EZS switch, control unit £640.20 including vat and labour. No bother since. Van bought new July 2016
