Hi all, I’m Andy from Salisbury.

I have a 2011 Vito 113, recently my rear wiper has developed a fault by stopping and starting again after a while mid sweep,
I’ve changed the motor and the relay but hasn’t solved the problem.

Does anybody have any suggestions to solve the problem?

Can you see an earth connection close to the wiper motor?
If so, clean the connection by unscrewing, sanding down, reconnect using some copper grease.

Hello and welcome
Possible switch failing or wiring has a week spot?

Have you carfully looked at the wiper arm to ensure its not slipping off the spindle.
Does it stop always at the same point.
I assume the wiring goes through across a door hinge - may suggest a cracked wire. Test continuity as you swing the door.
Some thoughts.

Hi, thanks for your posts, I’ve checked that the arm is secure to the spindle.
On the first sweep the arm stops about 3/4 of the way and then stops again at the end of the sweep and the same on the return sweep. This also happens when I use the wash wipe and engage reverse gear when the windscreen wipers are on.
I haven’t checked the switches yet, this is my next job,
Many thanks

Tbh it still sounds like the motor.
The possibles are SAM, dash switch, relay, wiring.
Once initiated by the SAM the wiper should do a full sweep, unless there is a break in the feed from fuse 7. That is possible, but if your wiper responds to the dash (input to the SAM) each time w/o fail I wouldn't think so. An intermittent fault on the feed or the return and you would expect a fail to initiate sometimes.

This was happening with the original motor so I replaced it. When the wiper stops and I switch it off and then switch it on again it starts immediately but will then stop in the same place as if I just leave it switched on.

It's difficult to imagine an obstacle that causes this, but the same result on both motors?
If you pull the wiper arm clear on its spring does it still happen?
Could the rubber grommet be causing drag? Unlikely, straw grasping.

You might plug in the original motor to see if it still stops while free of the tailgate.

Another thought,
I replaced mine with after market recently. The plug was a poor fit into the socket. I needed to manipulate it to be sure it would remain secure.

Aside from that the shaft was 1mm smaller in diameter than the original. I wrapped some self amalgamating tape to be sure it wasn't going to suffer water ingress.

The earth is good and the voltage is 12.23 with ignition on and 14.56 with the engine running, so i'm thinking its got to be the motor.
