Hi guys, just after some much needed help,

I drove through flood water on a trip out last night and straight away the power steering went and threw an error light in the dash power steering malfunction check owners manual, I have done a scan with xentry and it says there is no power to the power steering ecu and to check the 100amp fuse under the drivers seat at the back of the battery, so that's what I did and noticed this fuse but I did not want to try sliding it off incase I broke it, how do I check the fuse to see if its OK? It seems like it's welded to the main metal board :S

As you’ve got one end off, use a multimeter on Ohmn setting and check across it - should be 0 ohmn

Ok, doesn't the battery need to be on for that? As had to take battery off to get to the fuse board, or will I need a special voltmeter? Also if it is the fuse blown how can I change it as it seems to be pressed into the metal board, I was thinking of drilling it off and replacing it with one of these with a tiny nut and bolt to secure it back on the board. Thanks

Hi StevoAmigo1,

Did you manage to get this sorted? I drove through some flood water in my A class and my power steering has stopped working and the power steering malfunction message has appeared on the dash.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi yes, long story short the power steering motor on the steering rack was toast inside so I ended up replacing the whole steering rack myself off another vito the same, water had got into the electric motor because the plastic cover on it had broke exposing a hole for water to get in, guessing in your case that might be a different scenario and hopefully was just a blown fuse
