Morning all and Happy New Year.
I have a 2016 Vito W447 Auto, is it normal that when the van is doing a DPF auto regeneration that manual gearbox mode is not available and kick down is disabled?
Cheers
Mike.

I can't see why it would.

Mine is the earlier 2014 (so a 639), giving it extra hoof will raise the exhaust temperature and assist in the regen.
When I know it's in regen mode and I'm heading toward congestion I drop the gears to raise the revs, for the same reason.

Many feel that you should keep the revs at 2k to aid regen. Personally if I'm on a reasonable road I just let it do whatever the ECU / TCU tells it.

I monitor with Torque app on an Android.
When the DPF passes 525c I know it's in regen.

You can usually smell when a car is doing a regen - a wierd burning type smell - i can only describe it as. You can also feel the heat when outside the car and lastly yoir recently full fuel tank will drop level like a lead baloon.

while driving along ?
Of course.
It would terminate the regen if I was idle for more than a couple of minutes.

Generally around each 460 miles. Can be less from town driving, can be higher if m'way cruising. The ECU will initiate at a max of around 570 miles.
The last one initiated at 555 miles. I was local, taking doggy for a stroll, so only ran a couple of miles. The next drive 4 days later it initiated again, to finish the job, at coolant temp of 32C.

6-10 miles per regen.

My estimate from calculation is that it increases consumption by 1 1/2%, if the increase in consumption reported by Torque can be believed.
Since I'm driving I don't feel heat or smell anything. The engine tone may be with a tad more low rumbling, maybe.

You might get the impression that I'm paranoid about regen failure.

The heat and smell you will note if stood outside the car during a regen.

ive honestly never been aware of a regen .

Is the whole dpf /regen thing not rather disingenuous ?
Seems to me the dpf captures a load of nasties ( so we can all pretend we're not poisoning the likkle children ) .
Then a regen kicks in and puffs 'em out somewhere else !

It's magic.
Like squeezing lots of horses into that bonnet space.

It also uses raw diesel to burn it off… they don’t measure the emissions during that time… or the fuel economy
