W/S switch

Hi there,

When we had the heavy snow last Wednesday I swtiched the W/S from Summer to Winter and everything was working fine - starting on 2nd and pulling away nice and steady. But when I came to switch it back to Summer(S), it refused to switch. Everything still works ok but response is slower being in Winter mode. Does anybody has any ideas? Is it the switch or something else more expensive?

Mine is a 98' E240 Elegance.

yours is a common story, yes it is just the switch that is stuck if you take it apart and clean it, all will be back to normal

ps its not easy allow 2-3 hours if you havent done one before

Hi Piestore,

I had a quick look at the switch location and information from another forum. It looks like an involved job just to take the switch out and in the process may destroy the gear selector mechanism.
Have you done this before?
Any instruction/picture would be much appreciated.

Yes I ahve done quite a few its ok if you take your time and don't rush

Hi Piestore,

Is it just a matter of being careful or there will be unexpected things like springs and pins coming out of nowhere that cannot be refitted?
Do you need to take the whole thing apart before getting to the switch?
