Has anyone had recourse to visit their heater blower motor?

If so please spill the beans on gaining access, and I'll be eternally grateful.

There's nothing like knowing what's ahead of you before you start.

Thanks in advance...........hoping I get some replies.

My 72 350sl motor is located below the rectangular screwed plate under the bonnet, just in front of the windscreen, very easy to access.

just don't drop the screws

Use a magnetized screwdriver. While you are under there, check for rust and rot. And disconnect the battery before you do any work on the motor.

from a 'how to' paper on stopping the footwell leaking you can also inspect the panels below for rust and pin prick sized holes that let the water in, is it a big job to repair these panels, i.e a diy job or is it best left to the experts?

from what I hear

it can be enough to sink the car, if there is serious rot there. Pinpricks will always be easy with a spot of filler, but they are a symptom of trouble ahead or elsewhere. liberal anti-rust treatment ahead of time while you are in there, I'd say.

Right.... I got the blower/motor/cylinder fan out and three of the four studs that were spotted onto the bodywork, attaching the fan unit, have come away as well due to corrosion.

Anyone got any suggestions for a fix for that?

Next headache......one of the brushes in the motor is well down to it's last legs, which was obviously causing my 'not running' problem, and I actually got it running again before I pulled it out, by giving it a bit of a spin with my fingers and turning on the power.

Anyone changed these brushes?

I thought they might have been a simple disconnect job, but they're connected to some sort of copper-wire-wound resistor and crimped into a connection that looks real easy to destroy.

Is the fan unit similar to the one in the 300E W124 or even the big babes of that vintage like the W126 380's and 500's ????? It might be better to a get a replacement !!!

Aw Guys, Please, please...

Come on .......somebody must have changed out the carbon brushes in these fan motors.

I need a 'heads-up' on this before I do some destruction.

Give it to an auto electrician to have a go, I ruined many a motor with DIY. Im sure I saw one on Ebay and wasnt as pricey as I thought it would be. Do a search on the net, I would imagine this motor-impellar setup is unique to the 107series.
