Whilst replacing the front coil springs on my 280SLC I have run into trouble removing the lower control arm O/S/F.  The rear fulcrum pin came out OK but the front is siezed into the rubber bush.  The pin turns inside the bush inner section with the outer section of bush solid into the control arm mount.  No amount of hammering with a drift will move it.  Also tried pressing out using part of a ball joint separator but got scared it was going to bend (had it fixed against the towing anchorage point).  Anybody had a similar experience?  Help please!

W107 lower control arm bushes

Hi Barrie

It time to get the hack saw blade out. Cos thats the only way them bolts are coming out.  Had the same problem with 190s the bolts seize when trying to adjust the wheel alignment. Once you have cut through some couple of hours later. Then get a kit to replace the bushes.

The reason you have run into trouble is because us experts have a special tool to compress the springs in situ.  Thus alieviating the necessity for removing the bottom arm.

Don't forget to get the wheel alignment checked afterwards.

Thanks Andy and sorry fror the late reply.  You where quite right about the hack saw albeit in the event I used an air saw (still took 30 minutes and several blades.  Got to do the other side now then I'll get the alighnment checked as you suggested.

Regards
