W115 won't idle.

Hi there I'm a new member so would like to say hello and post my problem.
I have recently received my imported 1975 w115 230/4 from south Africa.
I have paid the import duties but need to get an MOT to register witty
The problem is I can start the car but it won't idle and stalls as soon as I take the throttle off.
Its a stromberg 175 with an off centre red screw cap.
I've taken one of the plugs out but it is very sooty.
I'm not very knowledgeable in practical mechanics, but can't drive it to garage and haven't found a local mobile guy who is willing to help.
So just need enough info to be able to drive safely to a garage 10 Miles away

Hello and welcome
Check the rubber diagram in the carburettor, these can deteriorate.
Though you may have dirt in the float chamber or the float level might be too low?

I know south african cars are set up different for the hot climate, is there a mixture screw anywhere? a carburrettor specialist would help, take a plug out and check the colour.
