Hi All,

I'm trying to be realistic about my car as it cost less than some of you would spend on a service! However I'm starting to think that's my good fortune because as it stands I've only got one small issue that's spoiling the drive for me.
I've got a metallic rattling noise from underneath the front of the car at about 800 - 1000 revs when accelerating. Doesn't do it at idle (about 600 revs) or when the car picks up speed/ cruises.
I thought it was a heatshield vibrating against the exhaust when I bought it and thought I'd be able to "persuede" it back into shape as required but I can't see anything obvious of that kind. Hmmmm...
Then when I was looking through all the old service history last night, by chance I found an advisory note (back in '97!) for a "rattling from underneath the front of the car on set-off" advising that the problem was the front flexi-pipe on the exhaust.

Can anyone tell me a bit about this part of the system? Why would it rattle if it was flexible? :? When I grab hold of the exhaust at the bottom of the front pipe I can dampen the noise but I can't tell exactly what's making the noise - anyone else had this issue?
Cheers as always, Nick
