My 1984 230e sits too high at the rear, I've got a receipt for new rear springs so I thought they were the wrong ones fitted. I got hold of a new set of rear springs and removed one of the old ones today, released the spring compressor, and the spring is the same length as the new ones? Any ideas, the rubber buffer is about 13mm thick but looks quite old?

Just to add, it looks about 1" too high, so high the rear wheels tilt outwards from the top at rest?

Apparently there were different thicknesses of rubber buffers available - maybe yours is too thick?

The springs could still be the wrong ones. They may be the same length overall, but they may be stiffer than they should be, hence they don't compress as much when fitted.

Thanks for the replies, the rubbers have 2 dimples so the next size down will only loose 5mm or so? Not sure about the spring tensions, I'll look into that, and it doesn't have self levelling. I would say that if you can get the proper srping compresser then do, it took me a lot of time/swearing/skinned knuckles to get mine out with the ebay universal ones I'd got, even after I'd cut them dowm to fit!
