Hi,

I'm picking up this tonight:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160142698789

I didn't win the auction, but emailed the seller and the original winner didn't come through. Seems like good value.

Does anyone have any links to "how to"s etc for servicing, oil changes etc. I don't yet know when it was last serviced, but I know it's only done 1000 miles in the last 12 months so could probably do with a change. I will go through all bills and documents when I get home.

Are there any manuals by Haynes etc? I can't find one.

Any good forums for technical advice (as well as this one)?

Also, I've owned one of these before, a fairly ratty (though reliable) 4-cylinder car. The seats in that car really let it down, very saggy. Even if these are OK, if the rest of the car is good and it's a keeper, I am going to try and find a good leather interior, W123 leathers are fairly rare, but does anyone know if W124 seats would fit?

Thanks for any help or advice.

Jamie.

Looks as if the wrong rear springs have been put on as the rear suspension is very high and the car does not look level.

Merc springs are a minefield !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but if you give the VIN to the parts person at Merc dealer they usually can come up trumps.

I wonder if they are genuine Merc springs.

I would get the number off the bottom coil (usually) and check it out with parts person to see if they would come up with the same part number again.

Let him give you the number before you tell him the number you have.

Here's everything I've got on manuals in no particular order. Hope some of it helps: -

You can download the manuals for some MBs (including the E320) in PDF format from http://mb.braingears.com/.

http://www.manualsunlimited.com/prod...ducts_id=11106 BUT USA spec of course.

Searching for a Workshop Manual for your Mercedes? Why not log onto:-
www.russek-manuals.co.uk retails at just under £20, postage included in uk but costs a bit more for customers abroad. It is very informative. However it does not cover the body work or interior, but it's a very good reference for all things electrical & mechanical.
The thread for this is

Also useful at times

Thanks all.

David, definitely Merc springs. The parts receipt was from a dealership. The car has only done a couple of hundred miles since they were put on, but I agree, these things can only "bed down" so much.

I will do as you advise.

I would suggest you change all of the fluids and filters - auto box, PAS, brakes, rear axle, engine, fuel. The valve clearances will probably also need doing, and may be the ignition timing. Did all of this on my 280 CE and it transformed the car. Plus you will have more confidence in it for longer journeys, knowing that everything is right. Haynes shows you how to do all of this.
