W123 300TD rear self leveling suspension

Hi. Can the self leveling rear shocks be replaced with a standard type shock absorber. Thus making the self leveling obsolete. It is not working anyway and would prove to expensive to repair. Looking at it I do not see why a typical ordinary shock absorber will not fit in place. Obviousley it will no longer be self leveling but you will at least have working shocks.

Somebody must of done this before. Can some one recommend what shocks will fit ?
