How easy is it to change the discs on the w123. The Haynes manual is not too clear - for the rear it just says it slips off for example. There is a single bolt in the middle of the disc - is this all that is holding it on? What about the front - any advice?

thanks

The fronts are easy, you can take out the 2 bolts 27 in the link, ease back the pads a touch to clear the ridge on the disc, or remove the pads by removing clip 26, then by pulling out the pin. Just one screw holding on the disc from memory.

With the rear, remove the pins and then the pads and caliper as in the front brakes, You must back off the parking brake, again to clear the ridge in the drum.

Try and not disturb the parking shoes, apply a little grease to the moving parts and linkages of the parking brake, it makes a huge difference while you are at it.

If you are fitting new pads ( advisable) make sure that they slide easily in the calipers, file off the paint if you have to, so that they can back off

Do wire brush or sand clean the mating surfaces so the the disc run true

There is a little more to the fronts-remove the pads from the caliper, the caliper from the stub axle & then remove the front hub complete with the disc(the disc bolts on to the front hub from behind with 5 allen bolts).
If the pads are tight in calipers,I prefer to clean the caliper,if necessary, with a file.Leaving the paint on the pad helps to prevents corrosion building up,ensuring long term smooth operation.
