w123 ignition lock issue

Hello,

I've received a new key from MB (finally) at the cost of £20. It works in my glove box, and nothing else! The only working key I currently have is the chauffeur key, which operates only the driver's door and ignition.

I suspect one of two things has taken place:

1. The ignition barrel has worn away - the car is 26 years old
2. The locks (at some stage) have been replaced.

Does anyone know if a barrel can be 'renewed' to take a brand new key? Without having to order a new barrel direct from MB, which will take a long time and cost £££?

Best wishes,

Your Mercedes
BMW 525 Diesel Touring
On a W124 you can buy a barrel keyed to your car - it's ordered using the chassis number. It comes from Germany and takes about 5 days. Lots of people won't wait and buy the generic barrel & key, fit that and live with two different keys

If the same is true on the W123 just order a barrel keyed to your car
