Hey all.

I'm a mechanical novice - want to learn.

Recently my friend noticed a small fuel leak from one of my injectors (the one closest the firewall, and hence the driver)

Each injector has the fuel supply in the center, with two overflow nipples either side.

Each injector is daisy chained via the nipples with the rubber overflow pipes, and said pipes then lead back to the fuel pump.

But the injector closest to the driver has the closest nipple simply closed by a smalll rubber blanking piece.

This is split, and has now been fixed with pvc tape.

Is this layout normal - should I have an injector without 2 nipples on it on the closest cylinder to the driver?

Can I just bodge this bit of rubber back together?

thank you alll. I am posting under the influence of beer. Hope it's clear.

it just seemed like there should be another return pipe and Y connector to the rest of the return lines.

The rubber hoses lead back to the fuel filter. They are primarily there so that if you run out of fuel you can bleed the air out of the injectors via the bleed bolt on top of the fuel filter. They also serve to recirculate over pressurised fuel. Clrarly MB did not want the unnecessary expense of a special injector at the bulkhead end and just capped off the redundant overflow nipple. Whilst it takes a lot to get diesel to burn I suggest that you eliminate the risk and the smell by replacing the pipes and cap. If you are anywhere near Hertfordshire I have the MB pipes but not the cap. Should cost you pence but you can use some pipe and block the end.
